CHEROKEE COUNTY MAN ARRESTED FOR SEX ACTS WITH MINOR

Murphy, NC— Ryan Lester Greene, a 36 year old Marble North Carolina man was arrested from charges alleging that Greene had engaged in sex acts with a juvenile female.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Georgia law enforcement authorities that Greene was accused of corresponding via internet communications and then meeting and transporting a juvenile female back to Cherokee County North Carolina. Georgia law enforcement further provided details that Greene engaged in sex acts with the juvenile while in Cherokee County North Carolina.

Greene was arrested for Indecent Liberties with a Minor and Felonious Restraint and was released on a $3,000.00 bond. Greene is scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court on June 13, 2012.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER STAND OFF WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT

Murphy, NC— Shortly after 9 AM May 02, 2012 the Cherokee County Emergency Communications Center received a call for assistance which provided information that a person was being held against her will at gunpoint. The caller further provided information that the subject at the residence was armed and was still at the residence.

As the incident unfolded law enforcement responded to a residence on Goldfield Road in Cherokee County. According to information being provided Michael Donovan Sobat a 34 year old Army E4 stationed in Ft Lewis Washington was armed and after assaulting the resident and holding her hostage was in the front yard.

As deputies arrived at the residence on Goldfield Road they found Sobat armed and sitting in front of the residence. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office crisis negotiator spoke with Sobat and after about a half hour the standoff ended peacefully.

Sobat was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center and is currently being held under a $50,000.00 bond. Sobat was charged with Second Degree Kidnapping, Assault by Pointing a Gun and Assault on a Female. Sobat is scheduled to appear on Cherokee County District Court later this month.
