Murphy, NC— Rubin James Jump, a 49 year old male who listed 5680 Candy Mountain Road, Murphy North Carolina as his home address was arrested by The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for Failing to Register with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
The charge against Jump was brought after receiving information that Jump was residing at the Candy Mountain Road address in Cherokee County. A brief investigation revealed that Jump had entered a guilty plea in 1993 to a reduce charge of Indecent Liberties with a Minor Child in Cherokee County Superior Court. Additionally, Jump served an active sentence in the North Carolina Department of Corrections and was released sometime in 1997. That upon release from the North Carolina Department of Corrections Jump indicted that he was moving to Alabama and acknowledged his duty to register as a sex offender. Additionally, Jump moved to Alabama and lived there for a short period of time and then returned to Cherokee County North Carolina around 2000, but never registered with the Sheriff’s Office as required to do by law.
This case is a continuing effort of the Operation Western Shield which is a cooperative effort by Western North Carolina law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation crimes and ensure compliance with the North Carolina Sex Offender registration laws as well as the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is a member of the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force.
Jump, who has a February 2011 court date, is currently out on a $10,000.00 secured bond.
